The brand new Barnsley Sixth Form College campus has been unveiled in the town centre.
A Level students returning after the Christmas break got their first look at the new £18m campus.
First year student Kenan Hodson, aged 17, said: “I had already had a tour of the building but it’s good to actually be in and getting down to work.
“I like that we are all starting the New Year here and learning where everything is together. The new Sixth Form will offer a lot more than the old Eastgate and SciTech campuses and I’m interested to see how it all develops.”
Second year student India Birchall, also 17, added: “It’s so big, yet looking at the building plans it looks really easy to find your way around. I’m most looking forward to getting to use the great facilities, in particular the EnRich auditorium for our drama sessions.”
Work began on the site in October 2014, which houses all of the college’s A Level provision.
Liz Leek, Barnsley Sixth Form College Principal, said: “This new 21st century Sixth Form College will show the young people of Barnsley that they deserve the best A Level provision and help future generations to realise their potential. This is a significant investment in the education of our young people and we aim to provide them with the skills they need to excel in their A Levels, afterwards at university and in their future careers.”
Nick Bowen, Barnsley College Governor and Principal of Horizon Community College, said: “Young people in Barnsley and the surrounding areas are fortunate to have the state-of-the-art facilities of this new campus which will considerably enhance their learning experience.
