Touring company takes time to talk with students

RashDash founders, Helen Goalen and Abbi Greenland, were in Barnsley performing their ‘Two Man Show’ at The Civic and visited UCB to work with students on the Acting for Touring Theatre foundation degree course.

The session saw Helen and Abbi engage the students in a range of activities aimed at creating theatre from a physical perspective and offer professional advice with the process of developing new and original productions.

UCB course leader Peter Lawton said: “We have an excellent relationship with The Civic which has given us the opportunity to work with six touring theatre companies over the last six months.

“Our students frequently attend shows at The Civic.

“RashDash’s work is all original which tied in perfectly with our students’ work on a research-based show about the miners’ strike of 1984-85, which they are doing for the Creative and Devised Experimental Theatre module of the course.”

Abbi, of RashDash, added: “It was great to come to Barnsley and work with students with such a diverse group of talents and interests.

“Barnsley isn’t on our normal touring circuit and we’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to come to a part of England we haven’t seen before and meet such an interesting group of young people.

“The students seemed very ambitious and creative and we look forward to meeting them again in the future as professionals.”

Two Man Show, which is touring until March 4, is an award winning, genre-defying shoq about gender, language and humankind, examining issues of masculinity and patriarchy.
