AN OLYMPIC-style Torch of Learning which has been on a three-month tour of schools is being brought to the Magna Centre to kick off Rotherham Children’s Festival.

The torch will arrive at the centre at 4pm on Monday.

Created by Thrybergh School and Sports College Students, the torch is part of the Lighting the Flame project, supporting the Olympic Torch Relay which will make its way through the borough on Tuesday, June 26.

The festival opening will also feature a Picture This! exhibition showcasing creative work from local schools inspired by a sporting Olympic London theme in celebration of the Olympic year.

Rotherham Children’s Festival runs until Friday, July 13, and includes performances of Shakespeare plays, book awards, musical events and an awards ceremony for school pupils' work.
