SIX South Yorkshire organisations have been named among the top 10 social enterprises in Yorkshire.
Darnall Post Office and Chapeltown Baths, in Sheffield; Doncaster Refurnish, which re-uses old furniture; Higher Rhythm recording studio, also in Doncaster; Barnsley Community Build construction firm, and Cawthorne Children’s Centre have all been included in the list.
The top 10 has been put together by the Yorkshire Key Fund, which provides funding for social enterprises around the region.
Chapeltown Baths, run by a community trust which took over after Sheffield Council threatened the facility with closure in 1996, has received help from the fund for improved heating, parking and changing rooms.
Duncan Walker, centre manager, said: “The baths have grown into a community hub and our relationship with the Key Fund has been essential.”
The baths, visited by 1,000 young people a week as well as adults, employ a total of 29 people.
The top three will be announced at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on Thursday, October 25, and will each win awards of £15,000.
