Bingo fan Elsie Beal has celebrated a very special number on the scorecard - her 100th birthday.
The centenarian marked the occasion with a party for proud relatives and friends at her home in Gleadless Valley.
Great-great grandmother Elsie used to enjoy bingo six days a week and her loved ones say the hobby helped to keep her young.
Granddaughter Maxine Fieldhouse, of Jordanthorpe, said: “I think working and bingo have been her secret.
“She used to go the Mecca every day except Sunday, right up until she was 90!
“She’s still got lovely skin - she has never smoked or been a drinker, so that helps.
“You can’t believe it really, she doesn’t look 100.”
Widow Elsie - who worked in the staff canteen at the old Batchelors factory on Claywheels Lane for 43 years - has two daughters, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
