Say a big hello to little Toto – the miniature schnauzer proves small is beautiful as
The Star’s Beauty and the Beast competition winner.

Seven-year-old Toto was among hundreds of handsome hounds and pretty pooch princesses entered into the competition by their proud owners.

And he proved a big winner after attracting the majority of the thousands of votes cast by readers of The Star.

Named after Dorothy’s little dog in The Wizard of Oz, Toto is a real eye-catcher.

And, according to his owner Paul England, he has also become quite the celebrity wherever he goes.

Paul, aged 61, a window cleaner, said: “I named him Toto as my partner Val is a big fan of the Wizard of Oz musical.

“And, like the wizard, he does tend to cast a spell on people he meets!

“Toto will be eight next Friday, but people always remark he looks much younger than his age.”

Toto’s favourite things include sausages, country walks and public transport – travelling on buses and, particularly, trains.

Paul said: “Toto regularly travels to York, Cleethorpes, Bridlington and Scarborough where he loves to have a walk on the sands.”

Toto, Paul and Val live in Bradwell and often go for countryside strolls around the Hope Valley.

Paul said: “There are plenty of beautiful walks in our area, which is just as well as Toto can’t get enough exercise.

“When we’re in Sheffield, we also like to walk from Whirlow along Ecclesall Road towards the city centre.

“And we always stop en route at Marco’s cafe, where Toto usually enjoys a sausage treat!”

Toto’s prize will be a canvas portrait taken by a professional photographer.
