CHESTERFIELD’S Visitor Information Centre has scooped a top tourism award.

It won bronze in the ‘Visitor Information Provider of the Year’ category at the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2012.

Staff were presented with the plaudit at a glittering ceremony in Leicester.

Coun Ken Huckle, Chesterfield Council’s assistant executive member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “We were thrilled to achieve a bronze award.

“It had extensive refurbishment work done just a few months ago and staff have worked hard through the changes, so it’s a great testament to them in achieving this award.”

Assessors said staff ‘gave an efficient and knowledgeable service with a caring attitude and demonstrated very good local knowledge’.
