TOP 100: Maplin grows internet sales and commits to High Street

Overall sales were flat at Maplin electronics last year, but business via the internet was up 15 per cent, according to chief executive Oliver Meakin.

Sales at the national network of 217 shops were down one per cent.

But the combination working together meant the company could be a true ‘multi-channel’ retail business.

“Our shops and internet-influenced sales are vital to the business.”

The firm’s most recent accounts show a loss of £3.2m.

Mr Meakin said Maplin employs 2,500 and its headquarters are in Wath.
