TOP 100: DFS gets ready to party in Rio

Doncaster-based sofa maker DFS '“ which is sponsoring Team GB at the Rio Olympics '“ has seen British manufacturing output increase by 50 per cent since the last games in 2012.

In its most recent annual accounts, the company posted £706 million turnover and £10.7m pre-tax profit, making it the second most profitable company in the borough. That’s up from fifth last year when profits were much lower at £3.6m.

In the main Top 100 table, which orders by turnover, it is up from sixth to fourth.

The company employs 984 in Yorkshire, including at head office and a factory in Doncaster.

It also has factory in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and more than 100 shops and 3,700 employees.

It is the largest sofa retailer and manufacturer in Britain.

The success is continuing. In its half-year results to the end of January, group gross sales were up seven per cent to £461.3m compared to £431.2m the half-year before.

DFS chairman Richard Baker said: “These record results confirm the success of our strategy and the quality of the DFS team at every level.”

Polypipe was top of the table with £16.9m profit, down from£24.6m last year.

Strata Homes increased profits slightly from £8.788m last year to £9.055m.
