Today's columnist, Karishma Ravalia: Is everything bad for us?

I know so many people who are interested in healthy eating and watching what they eat. And I have to admit that I'm one.

But I read something the other day that mentioned eight cancerogenous foods – so foods that could increase your chance of getting cancer. Reading it, I thought are there any foods that are actually good for us?

The list included eating too much red meat, potato crisps, microwave popcorn and probably the most surprising canned tomatoes. I know crisps and popcorn aren’t the healthiest so I can perhaps understand them, but canned tomatoes?

Apparently eating too many could increase your chance of getting cancer.

It made me think, pretty much every day someone says there’s something else we eat that’s bad for us or can increase our chance of getting something. So what are we supposed to believe?

Is there something harmful in everything we eat? It makes me think there are no healthy foods.

And soon someone will come up with a reason why bananas or lettuce are bad for us too.

I understand that there are some foods that could cause us problems and cutting down on them is a massive health benefit, but I think this might have been taken too far.

It’s just about eating everything in moderation and sometimes articles like this one don’t exactly help. Is it really going to stop us from eating canned tomatoes when they’re a big part of so many dishes?

It is important to let everyone know the consequences of eating certain foods but this is taking it a bit too far.

So is there anything that isn’t bad for us?
