The prime motivator for launching my Results Hub company wasn’t financial – it was to give something back to the region’s business community.
I’ve been truly humbled that we’ve managed to attract a whole wealth of nationally and internationally renowned speakers to come along to present to my monthly networking meeting, the Late Late Breakfast, and honoured I’ve been able to help a new generation of entrepreneurs.
I’ve wanted to find people with the kind of passion that can inspire people in business.
But without a doubt the guest who left the biggest impression wasn’t a professional speaker at all – she was an ordinary person that events turned into someone quite extraordinary.
Jayne Hurditch’s story is both tragic and inspirational. I was that inspired by what she did in the face of unbelievable tragedy I wanted to do something to help.
She is a central figure in Amy’s House – the charity set up by her parents, Maurice and Meriel Littlewood, following the death of Jayne’s eldest child; Amy died after she contracted Meningitis B.
Amy’s sister, Molly, was born with severe special needs and her parents took the decision to set up a charity to provide respite care for parents like their daughter who regularly felt isolated and shattered.
Amy’s House provided somewhere for children like Molly to play and engage with other children.
In 2011 the family were, again, completely devastated when Molly also died. They decided to include Molly’s memory in the Amy’s House story, so they set up Molly’s Mates, a project for older children/teenagers.
It allows them to practise life skills training and do the stuff that teenagers do like going to the cinema, bowling, eating out, but in a safe, stimulating environment and with support.
I was so moved when I heard the story of Amy’s House that I felt compelled to do something to raise funds for them.
I’ve enlisted Sheffield music legends the Soulfaces to headline a night dedicated to raising funds for Amy’s House charity.
The Motown and soul special is also set to feature soul DJ Stevlor on the decks.
The Motown & Soul night is set to take place at Genting Club Sheffield on Friday, June 24, from 9pm until 2am.
