Titans set for injury boost for big game

Robinson, therefore, could well make his Rotherham debut in a game of crucial importance to the future of the club; a win for the Titans would make it almost certain that the side, currently third from bottom, would stay in the league with three matches to follow.

Coach Justin Burnell, who brought Robinson to Clifton Lane shortly after his appointment last month, knows the fly half well: “When we were together at London Welsh,” he said.

“Will showed a lot of talent. He has a strong left foot which is a strength and he’s a prolific points scorer through the posts.”

While Robinson’s opportunities at London Welsh have been restricted this season, he made 16 appearances in the Premiership under Burnell during the 2014-15 season, scoring 41 points from 10 conversions and seven penalties.

Rotherham’s coach has three number 10s to pick from: Will Goodwin, Robinson and Ross Jones, all of whom have looked smart in the three weeks of training since the Titans last played in the league against London Welsh.

“The mood in the camp is good which is the most important thing,” says Burnell.

“The training has been intense and has covered the areas we needed to work on. We’ve been concentrating on our decision making which let us down at London Welsh. The other point we’ve been putting right is getting quick ball from collisions because if you do, you can go forward.

“Nottingham are a good side, they’re just outside the top four and I’m familiar with them because of my time at London Welsh. The important thing is that we are at home where we did well recently against Ealing and Bedford.”

The Rotherham line-up will be announced later today but before the match day squad of 22 is declared, Burnell is hoping that forwards Toby Salmon(Achilles) and Robin Hislop(shoulder) pass fitness tests.

Nottingham’s form has been inconsistent in the last three Championship matches: losing two of their last three and the stability of the club has been disrupted by the decision of coach Martin Haag to accept the offer to become head coach with England U20s from next season.
