Time for a cuppa as Bishop Jack greets visitors to his garden

BRITAIN'S monsoon summer failed to dampen the spirits of visitors to one of Sheffield's favourite gardens.

Hundreds of people took advantage of a rare opportunity to look round the garden of the Bishop of Sheffield, the RIght Rev Jack Nichols.

The Bishop threw open his colourful garden in Snaithing Lane, Ranmoor, in aid of the Medical Foundation, a charity that provides care and support for survivors of torture.

The event was organised by the Sheffield and Hope Valley support group to raise funds and awareness of the Foundation and its work.

As well as looking round the beautifully landscaped gardens visitors were able to buy plants, books and home-made cakes and listening to live music.

Organiser Ann Claydon said: "We're very grateful to Bishop Jack for lending us his garden. It is home to a wonderful collection of plants, and is so beautifully laid out.

"A lot of gardening enthusiasts from all over came along to see how wonderful it is, and to learn more about our work."
