Thug shot and stabbed man on Sheffield street

Keilan Whinfrey shot and then slashed his victim Adam Sellers with a knife 13 times in the horrific assault on Lowedges estate after a confrontation.

There had been an ongoing dispute between the pair after the ex-partner of Mr Sellers’ stepson had started a relationship with Whinfrey.

Whinfrey, aged 25, of Morland Road, Norton Lees, pleaded guilty to previous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm.

Sheffield Crown court was told Mr Sellers was walking along Lowedges Road at about 1.30am on May 17 when he saw Whinfrey.

Whinfrey fired two shots at him but missed and then fired again as Mr Sellers fled – hitting him in his right knee.

As the victim lay on the floor, Whinfrey subjected him to a brutal attack, slashing and stabbing him repeatedly before fleeing the scene.

The 41-year-old was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery for multiple injuries and the bullet which hit him is still lodged in his knee.

A witness said they saw Mr Sellers holding a hammer before he was shot and the pair had been ‘circling each other like boxers’.

Mr Sellers said in an impact statement read out at court that since the attack he was too frightened to go out and was always looking over his shoulder.

He had become ‘paranoid’ and had now moved away from the area.

Judge Simon Lawler told Whinfrey as he locked him up: “It is clear you were intent on seeking out Mr Sellers but equally Sellers had remained in the area so a confrontation was more than likely.

“CCTV shows Mr Sellers had a hammer in his possession and was swinging it around but you clearly have an unenviable record for violence and this was a grave and sustained attack that took place at night and in a public place with two lethal weapons.“
