A THUG who attacked two young men who intervened as he rowed with his girlfriend has been locked up for three years.
Ben Roach, aged 24, punched Adam Silcock and Nicholas Buxton shortly after being turfed out of a nightclub for ‘arguing aggressively’ with girlfriend Daniella Bone.
Sheffield Crown Court heard Adam was knocked out cold, while Nicholas fell to the ground after being punched in the face.
Roach then fled the scene and was chased by police officers, who were forced to use a pepper spray before arresting him.
Roach had 39 previous convictions, the court heard, including 12 for violence, three arsons and a robbery.
Laura Marshall, prosecuting, said the incident happened at around 1am on June 17.
Adam and Nicholas spotted Roach rowing with Daniella while buying takeaway food on Lower Castlereagh Street in Barnsley town centre. Roach had earlier been ejected from Escapade nightclub.
“They heard her screaming and ran towards the couple,” Ms Marshall said. “The defendant took exception to that, running towards both of them.”
Roach was later arrested in a supermarket car park nearby.
Louise Reevell, defending, said Roach was ‘genuinely remorseful’, and had had a ‘difficult childhood’.
She said he previously held jobs in construction and catering.
Roach, from York, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
