Three more arrests over New Year's Eve murder in Darnall

Mr Hussain, aged 41, was reportedly beaten with baseball bats, left in the street and then run over by a passing car on Staniforth Road minutes before the start of 2016.

He suffered multiple injuries to his head and body in the incident at around 11.20pm on Thursday, December 31, and died a short time later.

Two men, aged 35 and 31 years old, were arrested today on suspicion of murder, with another 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

All three men are in police custody being questioned by officers.

Police also carried out raids across Sheffield as part of ongoing investigations into the murder.

A number of warrants were executed in the Darnall, Hackenthorpe, Handsworth and Arbourthorne areas of Sheffield today.

Police vans were seen on Dagnam Road in Arbourthorne this morning as the operation took place.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Mr Hussain.

Idris Sadiq, of Darnall Road, Darnall, is currently on remand to appear before Sheffield Crown Court next month.

Two other men remain on bail in connection to the investigation.

One is a 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder.

The other person involved is a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police today repeated appeals for anyone with information about the killing to come forward.

DCI Steve Handley, who is leading the murder investigation, has previously said officers are ‘working around the clock to identify those involved’.

At a press conference earlier this month, he said: “The sustained and brutal assault of Mr Hussain has shocked the local community and indeed, the wider city.”
