Three Derbyshire mountaineers lost in Nepal blizzard

Three Derbyshire mountaineers have gone missing in a severe blizzard in Nepal that is known to have killed 29 people already.

Nigel Vardy, of Belper, (pictured above) was climbing Himlung Himal in Nepal with husband and wife Jamie and Clare Glazebrook, of Sutton Scarsdale, near Chesterfield, when they were swallowed by the snow storm.

The group started their expedition in the mountain range, which is close to be Tibetan border in the Manaslu region, when the blizzard hit a number of days ago - noone has heard from them since.

The Foreign Office has stated that they are not aware that any of the people confirmed dead after from Britain, but have contacted the families of climbers in the region.

Nigel is an experienced climber - known as ‘Mr Frostbite’, he lost parts of his fingers and nose to frostbite while climbing in temperatures of minus 60 degrees Celsius in Alaska.
