Three arrests after thugs beat up man

A MAN was beaten up in Sheffield after telling three thugs he did not have anything to give them. The 36-year-old was on Landseer Place, Gleadless Valley, when he was confronted and ordered to hand over valuables. Police investigating the attack at 10pm last Friday made three arrests, and seized drugs and cash from a property on nearby Mawfa Crescent.

FIREFIGHTERS ventilated a smoke-logged flat in Sheffield after a deep fat fryer went up in flames on an electric hob. The elderly man in the property extinguished the flames himself and a warden in his sheltered housing complex at Brunswick Gardens, Woodhouse, raised the alarm as a precaution at 10.10pm on Monday.

A COLLAPSED sewer means Dobie Street in Barnsley will be closed from Park Road to house number eight for the next three weeks. Work is being carried out by Drainsaid, and a diversion is in place along Park Road, Warren Quarry Lane and Cope Street.

TWO motorists were taken to hospital after a crash between a Vauxhall Vectra and a Ford Fiesta on Park Road, Worsbrough, Barnsley, at 5.30am on Tuesday. Police closed the road while emergency services attended.

A VOLKSWAGEN Beetle caught fire on Derek Dooley Way in Sheffield city centre after it developed an engine fault. Firefighters were called out to extinguish the flames at 8.50pm on Tuesday.
