Thousands of elderly and vulnerable people will be given free sensor light bulbs or LED night lights to help them feel safer at home.
Derbyshire County Council is running the project as part of its ‘Dusk Until Dawn’ scheme.
The energy-efficient sensor bulbs fit into ordinary light or lamp fittings and the night lights plug into a wall socket - both come on automatically.
The lights are designed to help prevent slips and trips around the home when it starts to go dark – and deter potential burglars by making it look like someone’s in if the owner is away overnight or on holiday.
Residents must have been assessed as vulnerable and housebound to benefit from the giveaway and lights will be distributed from the county council.
