'This the tightest, team bond that I have seen at Sheffield Wednesday,' says Owls goalkeeper Cameron Dawson

First-choice goalkeeper Cameron Dawson has described the team bond in the Owls squad as the "tightest" he has ever known it ahead of their mouth-watering clash with fourth-placed Middlesbrough.

Wednesday, refreshed after the international break, entertain Tony Pulis's side looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to five matches and move up to fifth in the Championship.

But despite their encouraging form, Dawson is refusing to get carried away, insisting there is still plenty of room for improvement.

He told The Star: "We are by no means the finished article. I think everyone can see that.

"All I can say to the fans is we are coming in every week and we work hard and work together.

"It is probably the tightest, team bond that I have seen at this club while I have been involved in the first-team environment.

"We all work for each other and we are all in together and we will just keep trying to put three points on the board."

The 23-year-old claims their 2-0 defeat to Brentford in the third match of the campaign was a "wake-up call" for the team and a turning point in their season. Since their lacklustre Griffin Park showing, Jos Luhukay's side have suffered just one defeat in nine league outings.

Dawson said: "I think that was the first time we have properly seen the manager really dig into us and get his point across.

"It (Brentford) was not acceptable and we had to look at ourselves as players individually and the way we followed orders and performed as a team which was not acceptable in that game.

"I think after that game the manager made quite a few big changes which will have turned a few heads.

"It made the point that no one is going to do what they want at this football club.

"He [Luhukay] showed he is the manager and he will make the decisions.

"If anyone had doubts about that, that reinforced the point that we needed to follow his orders as a team and that we needed to perform better in general.

"It was a case of giving everyone a wake-up call and maybe giving the so-called big players a wake-up call that they weren't going to be picked just on reputation and things like that. They were going to have to work and do their bit for the team.

"That has obviously happened and the results have picked up."
