This June, get the family Moving More

Move More Month
Have your say

From drumming and dancing to cycling and climbing, Sheffield families can try their hand at all kinds of fun activities across Sheffield this month, as part of the city’s spectacular Move More initiative.

Created by the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine, Move More Month is encouraging people to ‘move more’ throughout June and record their physical activity to see how many combined ‘active minutes’ the city can achieve - last year it was 6.5 million!

And there’s truly no shortage of things going on this week to inspire you:

Families can take up a challenge at Zest Community or try one of numerous activities including walking, swimming, cycling, or children’s football. Sheffield United’s Community Foundation will run a number of football camps at multiple venues across the city, including Meadowhead School, Westfield School and the Derek Dooley Sports and Community Centre. Meanwhile the Owls Community Programme is hosting a number of ‘turn up and play’ sessions for all age groups and abilities at official Sheffield Wednesday facilities as well as Forge Valley School.

Sheffield Wednesday will also have a blow-up pitch at Hillsborough Park on Saturday June 10, and the park will host a Youth Club Treasure Hunt on Tuesday 13 June. Awesome Walls are offering a one-hour discounted family taster session for two adults and two children aged over six years. Prices start at £50 for the family session - quote ‘Move More’ when booking to receive a free hot drink and free shoe hire for anyone participating in a family taster session.

There are plenty of fun sports-based fitness activities to take part in as a family at Pulse Fitness throughout June, for all age groups and abilities, while at Jump Inc’s Meadowhall and Parkgate venues free trampoline taster sessions will be available to introduce the new Jump Fit programme.

Sheffield Young Carers will hold an open event for young carers, their families and members of the public on Tuesday 13 June which will include drumming and dancing and is designed to get people of all ages moving.

Stocksbridge Leisure Centre will be offering Teen Boxfit and Teen Gym and Football sessions, while for the older or less mobile members of the family can get involved at Chair Aerobics at the venue.

Families can also take part in a series of free organised runs taking place throughout the month, thanks to The Outdoor City.
