FREE automatic light timers are being handed out to residents in North East Derbyshire to try to deter burglars.
The timers are being left at homes found in darkness, as part of a scheme run by North East Derbyshire Community Safety Partnership.
Cards are also being left notifying that the homes were found in darkness, bearing the slogan, ‘If we noticed, a burglar would’.
Coun Lillian Robinson, North East Derbyshire District Council’s member with responsibility for community safety, said: “Now the nights have drawn in people need to remember a house left in darkness is an easy target for burglars.
“Our Community Safety Partnership team is out in force, identifying houses which look unoccupied.”
