'˜There'll be nowhere in world you cannot get to': airport boss

'It leaves Leeds standing.'

Head of Doncaster Airport operations Tony Lonsdale may be a little biased, but he has a point.

Leeds Bradford is notoriously difficult to get to, especially in rush hour, because it is served by ‘B’ roads.

It is also at a high altitude and is frequently affected by high winds or fog. Only last week it was announced it was “technically impossible” to build a rail line to it, leading to calls by some for it to be moved.

By contrast, Doncaster Sheffield Airport is served by a new link road from the M18, which gives easy access to the Humber, the A1 and the M1.

It has also won Which? customer service awards and has a 2.8km runway – the second longest in the UK.

Tony said: “It’s so easy to get to and the airport is part of a proper holiday. And from March 24 when Flybe launches its new flights there’s nowhere in the world you can’t get to.”
