SOMETHING fruity has been going on at Sheffield Town Hall.
That’s where members of Sheffield Community Abundance group Grow showed off part of the harvest they plan to share with others in the city.
Grow is a volunteer-run project, which helps communities harvest the seasonal glut of unwanted and unpicked fruit in their areas.
The excess fruit is re-distributed among residents on a not-for-profit basis.
Abundance aims to reconnect communities with local food resources and provide skills, training and practical advice to residents.
Daniele Rinaudo, Abundance project leader, said: “There’s just so much fruit in Sheffield. Most of it is in people’s back gardens and they just can’t use it all.
“Yesterday we spoke to a lady in Greenhill who has three apple trees and if we hadn’t knocked on her door she would have thrown the fruit into the bin because she didn’t know what to do with it.
“We believe trees like these are a community resource.”
