THE votes are in - and here are the winners of The Star’s Cute Kids contest!

The competition awards prizes to the region’s little cherubs, with hundreds of proud parents taking their bonny babies to Mothercare, on Eyre Street in Sheffield city centre, to have their photos taken.

Anyone could take their cute kids to be photographed for free over six days by a professional snapper, and a picture of each child appeared in a special keepsake supplement in The Star.

Family, friends and readers were then asked to submit their nominations for the cutest youngsters, with a winner chosen in each of three age categories for boys and girls.

Lucas Drew, aged eight months, from Gleadless, won the up to one year category, and Kelsie Whitely, of Parson Cross, came top in the one to two years group.

Two-year-old Alfie Webster, from High Green, won the two to three years prize.

Every winner received a £50 Mothercare voucher, and a black and white acrylic print of their little child’s photograph.

Sheffield Newspapers spokeswoman Jackie Capper said 180 kids took part, adding the event was a “real success”.

“There was a very good turnout and it went well,” Jackie said. “It was a real success. Hopefully the next one will be just as successful.”

Jackie said some parents were determined to see their little angels chosen as the cutest kid.

“This time a parent spent £80 texting in their votes - that was just one person voting in for their child. It’s always very popular.

“They’re brilliant photos that get taken too, it’s a great value package that the parents can buy, containing photos of all different sizes.

“You get a big, portrait-sized picture and a smaller one too, as well as the little passport ones that you can keep in your wallet.”

She said the contest proves very popular because parents “just love their children to win”.

“We get a huge amount of people ringing up to see if their child has won. They really want to say their child is the cutest kid in Sheffield - it’s all about the parents being proud of their children,” Jackie added.

“It’s a family day out as well – all the family come along to see their children get photographed.”

The next Cute Kids competition is running from Monday, July 18, to Saturday, July 23, at Mothercare in Crystal Peaks.
