A CHURCH minister turned her hand to floristry for a spectacular Sheffield flower festival.
The appropriately named Reverend Alva Rose put together 20 arrangements for the New Testament Church of God’s colourful Hosanna Festival of Flowers.
“It was lovely, people have been so kind,” said The Wicker church assistant pastor, who studied floristry for two years to gain a national certificate.
“It went much better than I though it would. People visited in small groups and when they saw all the arrangements together they donated very generously. I called it roses from Rose!”
Proceeds from ticket admissions and sales of arrangements, will go towards repairing the church roof.
She took early retirement as a nurse at the Northern General seven years ago, before becoming a minister at the New Testament Church.
Inspired by the large space and weekly church services, she decided to train as florist, spending a day a week learning at a centre in Killamarsh.
“We haven’t yet worked out how much we have made from the festival, but I think we will do another one in August,” she added.
