Thanks for your support

I wanted to say a huge thank you to your readers for their amazing support during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in April.

Here, at Bowel Cancer UK, the UK’s leading bowel cancer research charity, we’ve been overwhelmed by the help we’ve received in encouraging more people to take part in bowel cancer screening.

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. However, it shouldn’t be because it is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. Bowel cancer screening can save lives but at the moment in some areas of the UK only a third of those who receive a test complete it. Thousands of people are missing out on the chance to detect bowel cancer early when it is easier to treat.

I would also like to say a big thank you to the hundreds of people who signed up to our new fundraiser, Be a Star, Bake a Cake, the fantastic celebrity chefs, including The Hairy Bikers, Rick Stein and Gino D’Acampo who supported the campaign, our amazing team of volunteers who gave awareness talks up and down the UK and those who supported us on social media, including MPs, policy makers, hospitals, businesses and healthcare commissioning groups.

So a personal and massive thank you from me and everyone here at Bowel Cancer UK. We cannot do this without you, but together we can stop bowel cancer in our lifetime.

Deborah Alsina

Chief executive, Bowel Cancer UK
