A RESTAURANT worker from Sheffield joined forces with a colleague to scale Africa’s highest peak.
Martin McGrory, a team leader from T.G.I. Friday’s, Meadowhall, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with a colleague from a TGI’s branch in Newcastle.
The pair have raised £2,971 for armed forces charity Help For Heroes.
Martin said: “I’ve previously run the New York Marathon for charity, and thought I would be in good shape for this challenge, but nothing can prepare you for the difficulty of climbing Kilimanjaro.
“On the final day you start the ascent at midnight, and the slope to the summit is unbelievably steep.
“However, it was all worth it once we got to the top.
“There was a large group of us so it was like a big party up there, only we had energy drinks instead of champagne.”
