Remains of a body found by a dog walker near Chesterfield have been identified after tests.

Janet Bacon, aged 74, went missing from her home in Abbot Road, Mansfield, on September 15, 2011.

A man walking his dog on an area of rough ground in New Houghton, between Bolsover and Mansfield, found her skull on Saturday, March 31, and a police fingertip search of the area unearthed the rest of her remains the following day.

Forensic and DNA tests have now confirmed the body was that of Mrs Bacon.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

An inquest is to be opened and officers working on the case are now preparing a file for the coroner.

Mrs Bacon vanished after a returning home following a shopping trip and getting a taxi to her local bus station.
