Terrified residents woken by 'loud explosion' on Sheffield street

Many Sheffield residents have reported being awoken by a 'loud bang' across the city early this morning.

Sheffield residents took to social media at around 5.30am to report hearin a loud bang in the Meersbrook area.

Armed officers are reportedly searching a house on Shirebrook Road after residents called police about the incident.

Residents on Facebook said the bang was 'terrifying' and 'ridiculously loud' with many reporting hearing it in Gleadless, Intake and in the city centre.

South Yorkshire Police have been approached for a comment.
