1. A fan of cycling? Why not combine your passion with some fantastic family time this weekend, by joining in a big, family-friendly bike ride, to keep driving forward the message that Sheffield needs safe Space for Cycling.

The Big Ride 2018, hosted by Cycle Sheffield, will meet at Devonshire Green on Saturday from 10.30am, ready to start at 11am. The ride is expected to take around an hour, and there will be marshals with the riders, and at key junctions.

2. Head down to Southbank Warehouse, on Effingham Road, this Saturday for Canalside’s monthly street food market - bringing to you a carefully selected group of street food traders and independent pop-ups. Expect award winning street food to cater for every taste alongside drinks and live music. From 2pm.

3. Charles Dowding has led the field of organic no-dig growing for 35 years, challenging common gardening myths and misconceptions. And this Thursday evening, the man himself will be at Lecture Theatre 2 in The Diamond, University of Sheffield, on Leavygreave Road, share what he has learned in the past 40 years, talking about how to achieve plentiful yields year round, with less weeds, while improving soil health. After the talk, Charles - who has produced numerous articles, books and a YouTube channel, and has appeared on the BBC - will lead a Q&A with the audience, before signing copies of his books, which will be for sale on the evening. 4. Are you a yoga fan? Then you really should make your way to Hagglers Corner, on Queens Road, this Saturday for Sheffield’s first ever yoga festival.

This is a place to celebrate, participate and connect, with talks, workshops, classes, stalls, and lots of sharing of yoga. Join the rest of the city’s yoga community, wherever you are on your yoga path, and whatever your age or level of experience.

There will be opportunities to meet many of the city’s yoga teachers, take a yoga class in a variety of styles, bring your family, share vegetarian & vegan food, watch informative yoga films and documentaries, swap yoga books and clothes, and take a stand on the soapbox to talk about something meaningful to you, if you like. From 10am to 6pm.

5. The first Farplace South Yorkshire Vegan Festival will comes to the Octagon Centre in Sheffield this weekend.

Hosted by Farplace Animal Rescue, who help animals in need across the UK, the event will include stalls, talks, and demonstrations, as well as plenty of hot and cold food, cosmetics, campaigns, and much more.

Entry is £3 on the door this Saturday, from 10.30am to 5pm, or in advance with kids coming free.

6. The secret’s out! The Mystery Gin Festival is coming to Penistone Community Centre in Sheffield this weekend, showcasing 50 of the best gins from around the world, each served with complimentary garnishes and mixers. Discover industry secrets a Gin Master Class, sample the wares of gin distillers at their stalls, or simply soak up the steampunk decor and Victorian vibe. The festival will run Friday and Saturday, from 6:30pm-11pm.

7. Rumour has it that Sheffield’s National Emergency Services Museum is home to a number of spirits, attached to the city centre attractions many old artifacts. This Saturday, at 9pm, Simply Ghost Nights will be hosting a ghost hunting experience, so if you’re curious about things that go bump in the night, this could well be for you. The event, which is expected to run until 2am, will explore a number of recent sightings, happenings, and general creepy tales. Not for the faint-hearted...

8. Meet local makers and have a hunt through their hoard of craft materials to see if you can find a crafty bargain this Saturday.

This mini de-stash sale will take place in the workshop at All Good Stuff at Butcher Works, on Arundel Street, between 11am and 3pm, and entrance is free. There will be a huge selection of stuff for sale, including buttons, beads, fabric, stamps, and paper - and with prices starting from just 50p, you’re bound to stumble across something you just can’t resist.

9. The first ever Charleston a Go-Go social will be held tomorrow, at Woodseats Working Mens Club.

Arrive for a drink at 7pm, before learning a whole routine from start to end in a 90 minute-dance workshop at 7.15pm; think Charleston, soft-shoe shuffle, and a good old Hollywood-inspired show stopper. Then take a short break, before dancing the night away, with all vinyl DJ Jamie, who is ready to make the dance floor jump and shake!

10. Sheffield Bierkeller will host its Comedy Keller this Sunday, which will be hosted by Tom Wrigglesworth.

Yorkshire-born Tom became a national have-a-go hero when he rescued a little old lady from the jaws of Virgin train bureaucracy, only to be arrested for ‘begging.’ His subsequent sell-out show ‘Open Return Letter to Richard Branson’ bagged him a Chortle Award for Best Show and a nomination for the main Edinburgh Festival award. From 6pm to 3am.
