Beanies, which since 1986 traded from a shop on Crookes Valley Road, has just moved a few doors away to bigger premises inside a former medical centre on the corner of Barber Road – no doubt giving it even more space to stock its real Christmas trees, customarily sold every year. Call 0114 268 1662, email [email protected] or visit www.beanieswholefoods.co.uk for details. Opening hours 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, 9pm to 5pm Saturdays and 10.30am to 4pm on Sundays.

Best known for its flat-pack furniture, the Swedish homewares giant does a nice line in genuine trees. And shoppers can save money there too, as an offer running until December 24 means customers get a £20 voucher when they buy a real fir in-store for £29 – cutting the cost of a tree to £9. People can redeem their voucher against a range of items from January 13 to February 23, 2020. Trees have usually been sold from the car park at the store on Sheffield Road, Carbrook. See www.ikea.com for information. Opening hours 10am to 9pm, Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm, Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.

This winter a log cabin is opening where people can browse gifts and enjoy a coffee. The place is dog-friendly, too – as long as pets are kept on a lead. Pot grown or cut trees are available, and a delivery service is offered as well. Children can take part in a Christmas tree treasure hunt, play on a festive bouncy castle and have their pictures taken with three nativity lambs – Baaaary, Baaaarbara & Baaaarbie. The farm – off Game Lane, postcode S6 6GW – is open daily until Christmas Eve, 9am to 4.30pm. See www.thesheffieldchristmastreecompany.co.uk for details.
