Temperatures up in a sunny month in Sheffield

Last month was the warmest December on record in Sheffield, figures have revealed.

Statistics from Museums Sheffield’s Weston Park Weather Station showed it was the dullest December since 2002, with 33.2 hours of sun recorded. In 2014 75.9 hours of sun were recorded, making that December the sunniest ever in the city.

Sheffield experienced its hottest December day since 1994 on the 18th, when temperatures exceeded 15 degrees Celsius.

On average it was the warmest final month of the year on record. The mean temperature was 9.1°, when the 30-year average is 4.9°. December 2015 brought the most days on which it rained for a decade-and-a-half. There were 27 ‘rain days’, compared to 29 in 2000.

Despite the downpours, overall rain fall - 97.2mm - was close to the average of 93mm, and down on 2014.
