On Thursday people will be able to talk to the consultants when they set up shop in All Saints Square as part of an ongoing public consultation exercise. They have already spoken to hundreds of people in a bid to get new ideas.

The consultants will be unveiling their plans for things such as better street lighting, more seating and landscaping and other improvements to the town centre.

GIllespies’ consultant landscape architect Simon Hall said: “Engaging with the public is vital for gaining information, opinion and ideas that help shape our future plans for Rotherham. We have already involved over 20 groups and organisations in consultation presentations, workshops and surveys, talking directly to over 350 local people.

“Many of the emerging ideas that will be on display at the exhibition have come from these consultations and take into account the needs of the local population.

“We have been impressed by the quality of contributions made by key groups of local people and their continuing interest in how Rotherham town centre will develop over the next 10 to 20 years. In particular, the views and comments from young people are valued as they are the future generation most likely to benefit from this exciting project.”

Visitors to the town centre exhibition will also be able to find out more about the 14 million first phase of the town centre flood alleviation scheme being carried, as well as proposals for the important former Guest & Chrimes site, earmarked for a new civic centre.
