TWO teenagers were taken to hospital after the car in which they were travelling ploughed into a lamppost.

Emergency services were alerted to the smash on Wickersley Road, Broom, Rotherham, and found a Vauxhall Astra embedded in the post.

An 18-year-old was driving, with a 15-year-old boy as his front seat passenger.

Firefighters said the driver managed to get out of the mangled vehicle himself, but his passenger was trapped and had to be cut free.

Paramedics treated both casualties at the scene before taking them to hospital for further treatment.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision at around 11.30pm on Saturday.
