Teenager stabbed in bus queue attack

A TEENAGE boy is recovering after being stabbed in his side and slashed across his face by a man who lunged at him with a knife as he queued to get on to a bus in South Yorkshire.

The 16-year-old was at a bus stop outside a fish and chip shop on Sicey Avenue, Shiregreen, Sheffield, when he was attacked by a man who jumped off a bus as it pulled up.

Covered in blood, the victim ran to a nearby hairdressers on Hatfield House Lane to report the attack.

Hairdresser Sharnette Adams said one of the clients in the shop was a nurse who managed to stem the flow of blood until paramedics arrived to take over.

The 36-year-old said she was shocked at the attack and the teenager was lucky to have survived.

"He told us he was at the bus stop with a friend when a buss pulled up and a man jumped off, pulled out a knife and stabbed him in his side and face for no reason," she said.

"It was totally unprovoked and could easily have ended in disaster.

"We were all shocked when he came in covered in blood, told us what had happened and we saw the blood spurting out.

"It is really frightening to think that people are walking around carrying knives and prepared to use them for absolutely no reason."

An investigation has been launched by police into the stabbing, which happened at around 7pm on Friday.

One youth arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
