Designed to give young fighter a chance to experience international boxing, Steel City ABC’s Bostan grabbed the opportunity with both gloves.

He beat Scottish champion Kieran Yardley in the 42kg category to get his international career off to the best possible start.

Bostan’s victory came only a week after he beat the reining Irish champion in a special Yorkshire v Dublin tournament.

“Everything is going really well for me right now,” Bostan told Grass Roots.

“I’m really proud to have represented England. Getting that vest was great.

“We’re putting a lot of good work in at the gym and I’m thankful to my coach Grant Smith.

“My school, Clifton Community School, has been really good with me as well and has supported me with my boxing.

“I’m excited for what is coming in the future.

“Hopefully I’ll be making a lot more appearances for England and winning more titles.”

Bostan – who turns 14 this weekend – is the reigning England Boxing Schools champion in the first year category at 41.5kg.

His international call is the latest in a long line of success for Steel City ABC, based in Attercliffe.

Chris Luteke, Dalton Smith and Sunny Edwards have all won national titles.

And Bostan says having top quality gym mates has helped his progress.

He said: “It’s a brilliant group to be part of.

“We all support each other and they’re all quick to give me advice.

“I’m the baby of the group so they all look after me.”
