Teen raises funds for kids' charity cancer

Lucy da Costa, aged 18, of Ranmoor, will be putting her fitness to the test on April 23 to raise money for CLIC Sargent, which supported her family while she was unwell.

Lucy had been ill for a few weeks and was having mini seizures when her mum took her to hospital, but was told it was a virus that should settle down. A later visit revealed the brain tumour, and Lucy was operated on for eight hours that night, followed by 56 weeks of chemotherapy.

Lucy said: “As I was so young, I don’t have many memories of the early days of my diagnosis and treatment but my parents have spoken to me about it, and I went through my childhood living with the aftermath of having a brain tumour.

“My parents told me that CLIC Sargent helped my family a lot while I was having treatment and that the support they gave makes the whole cancer experience easier for patients and their families.”

Thankfully Lucy is now doing well, only having scans every five years. This April Lucy is going to put her fitness to the test for the charity that helped her family.

“It’s going to be a really big challenge for me but I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Team CLIC Sargent’ doing what I can to help the charity,” she said.

“I want to raise as much money as possible because cancer really turns families’ lives upside down and I want CLIC Sargent to be there to support everyone who needs it.”
