Team's vow to run in Kirsty's memory

A team of people will take on Sheffield Half Marathon next month, in memory of their friend who died last year.

Kirsty Jennings, aged 33, lost her long battle with depression last October.

And now her friends, from peer support group, Survivors of Depression in Transition, will run the half marahthon to raise money and awareness in her name.

Lucy Hayre, who is leading the team, said: “We miss Kirsty so much. The half marathon will give us a really good challenge to focus on and also raise as much money as possible for the charity that supported her and other women that are currently in the same fight with this cruel illness.

“Please support us, raising vital funds for more support for one of the most common mental health issues that people can and do suffer with.”

Kirsty was a volunteer for the group, which has been running in Sheffield for over 20 years, as well as attending for support for around two years.

Stephanie de la Haye, executive chair and founder of Survivors of Depression in Transition, said: “We are a small survivor and user-led women’s organisation based in Sheffield. We support women who experience mental health distress by the use of peer support, one-to-one talking therapy, campaigning, mental health awareness training, and telephone support as well as other activities.

“We are 100 per cent run by volunteers. Having survivor-based volunteers means they have the human connection of what it feels like to have gone through all the ups and downs of health conditions like these.

“Creating those connections gives people hope for the future.”
