The National Union of Teachers has announced staff are due to walk out of Westways Primary School, in Crookes, on Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 7 and then for two days the following week on Tuesday, December 12 and Wednesday, December 13.

The union claims staff are unhappy with changes being made at the school since a new executive headteacher was appointed and has refused to rule out further strike action.

A statement from the NUT said: "We hope that, through last minute negotiations, strike action can be averted.

"However, should this not occur strike action is scheduled on Wednesday 6, Thursday 7, Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 December.

" There is the potential for further action after the Christmas break should there be no settlement of the dispute.

"We anticipate that the school will be largely or fully closed on strike days.

"We deeply regret the disruption and inconvenience that this will cause parents, and the short term disruption to teaching and learning.

"However, we believe that we are not only demanding fair working conditions for the staff team, but a student experience based upon sound educational principles offering a broad and balanced curriculum through inspiring teaching."

The school has been contacted for comment.
