Tea parties to help support asylum seekers in Sheffield

A Sheffield charity which supports destitute asylum seekers is urging people to host tea parties this summer to raise cash for food, accommodation and support.

ASSIST is hoping to sign up tea party hosts for events from June 20 onwards.

The charity will provide a pack of information, including posters, invitations and a quiz, to help inform tea party guests about the work of ASSIST.

A spokeswoman said: “If hosts could ask for a minimum donation of £5 per guest, this would go a long way in supporting ASSIST as £5 could cover expenses for a weekend’s hospitality for an

asylum seeker in need of somewhere to sleep.

“We understand if this is not always possible, and any donation that guests can give would be gratefully received.”
