CAMPAIGNERS who have launched a scheme to tackle loneliness and isolation among elderly people in Sheffield have unveiled a poster campaign urging volunteers to help run tea parties.

Contact the Elderly has put up posters which are being displayed on Sheffield’s tram network, appealing for people who can lend a hand to come forward.

The charity organises free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and above, around Sheffield. Each older guest is collected from their home by a volunteer driver, and is taken to a volunteer host’s home, where they join a small group for tea, chat and companionship.

Contact the Elderly currently has three groups in Sheffield, with one urgently needing volunteers to sustain the tea parties.

The posters, which feature the slogan ‘take Harry and Sally to tea’ and which have been supplied by advertising company CBS Outdoor UK, are being used to attract volunteer drivers.

If you can help with the tea parties, log onto www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk/become-a-volunteer or call 0800 716 543.
