Taxi drivers from Bacup

There has been quite a lot of correspondence recently about taxi drivers who have registered in other local authorities which have less stringent regulations than coming to Sheffield to ply for trade. Recently many of the taxis I have seen in Sheffield have been from Rossendale District ( Bacup, East Lancashire).

Well, there may be good news. According to the BBC News website Rossendale are making their regulations more difficult to the extent that many of their taxi drivers may give up the job. This includes 40 new measures and compulsory basic skill tests. They are supposedly aimed at a level at which a seven-year-old could pass them although apparently 12 out of 29 people have already failed.
