The man who died after an incident involving a taxi in Doncaster on Wednesday morning had sustained head injuries, police have revealed.

Traffic was brought to a near standstill as police closed St George’s Bridge in the town centre.

Officers had last night still not named the dead man, although he was identified locally as 27-year-old Robert Dowling, from Carcroft.

Five people - three men and two women - arrested in connection with the incident have been released on police bail until early April.

All five, and the man who died, were occupants of a black Mercedes Vito taxi travelling out of the town centre.
