Tattoo artists puts best foot forward for charity

A tattoo artist is putting a spring in Sheffield's step and inking her customers' toes '“ all in the name of charity.

Krissy Langley, who runs Momma Inks on Station Road, Chapeltown, is tattooing cheery characters and faces on to people’s toes to raise funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

She has tattooed 20 of the faces so far including recognisable ones such as Tim Burton’s Jack Skellington and Piglet from Winnie the Pooh – and raised £200.

Krissy said she came up with the idea after one of her customers asked her for a similar tattoo ‘as a bit of a laugh.’

She said: “I did one for a girl who came in with her friends and put in on Facebook.

“People loved it and it had the most likes I’d ever had I think – about 250. And the next day someone who was booked in wanted one too. So I thought I’d turn it into something for charity.

“The longevity of them isn’t that good, they come off in a couple of months because it will rub against your shoes and the skin will come off, but it’s just a bit of fun for a good cause.”

Krissy, who has three children – Lillie, 12, Mikey, 10, and Caitlyn, five – chose to donate to Sheffield Children’s Hospital as she has been in and out of the facility with them.

She said: “At one point it was like a season ticket there.

“Lillie stopped breathing when she was a week old so we were in for a few days and then she did it again a few days later.

“It was scary because she was so tiny but we were looked after. My son was in and out a lot too with a high temperature and we’ve been in for pulled elbows, eyes, the lot.”

Disney-mad Christine Ingham, from Chapeltown, has had Piglet’s face inked on to her toe.

The 51-year-old warehouse supervisor said: “It didn’t hurt at all, it only tickled a tiny bit and you feel the buzz of the needle.

“It looks great though and I’m really happy with it.

“I love everything Disney and Piglet is my favourite character. I’ve been wanting another small tattoo and this is just a nice thing to do for charity.”

Krissy is charging £20 for every toe tattoo, with half of the money from each one going to the Children’s Hospital.

She said: “I’m going to keep doing it, people seem to really like it and if I get inundated with people wanting one done I’d like to do a whole day of them.”
