talks aimed at establishing a train or Supertram service along an existing railway between Stocksbridge and Sheffield are set to be held in December.
Stocksbridge Town Council and Don Valley Railway will meet to discuss the possibility of using the existing freight track from Sheffield to the town’s steelworks.
A direct rail service taking just 111 minutes could be provided - or an extension of the Supertram which terminates at Middlewood, Don Valley Railway has suggested. Coun Jack Clarkson, of Stocksbridge Town Council, said: “I think this proposal has a real chance of succeeding.”
Previous local passenger services on the line to Stocksbridge ceased in 1959.
