Talented footballer picked up by Sheffield United through college programme

A teenager has been signed by Sheffield United on a scholarship after impressing coaches who worked with him as part of a scheme with Sheffield College.

The United Future elite education and training programme is for talented footballers who aspire to turning professional.

Nathaniel, aged 17, from Shirecliffe, will now train full-time at SUFC’s academy.

Lee Dunn, United Future’s head coach, said: “It’s another positive step forward for the programme and not only excellent news for Nat but it really does show that the hard work and endeavour of the coaching staff is paying off. It’s ultimately what the programme was set up for and it is yet more proof that it is working.”

The United Future programme offers young people the chance to complete a recognised vocational qualification and hone their technical skills with SUFC.

The programme is aimed at 16 to 18-year-olds who have previous experience of playing at an elite level and want to develop a career as a footballer, as well as those who want the business know-how to break into the football, sport and leisure industries.
