Taken for a ride in city

I have recently been using black cabs down in central London and have been pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the fares are compared with Sheffield's notoriously exorbitant rates e.g. Fixed charges '“ London £2.40, Sheffield £3.50. Likewise the mileage rates. Can someone please explain this?

Coupled with plummeting diesel prices it seems that we are literally being “taken for a ride” and suffering a double whammy from the private hire trade.

Perhaps one of your reporters could go to London or indeed other towns and cities and check this out.

It would make interesting reading.
