TAKEAWAY TEST: Ambar, Ecclesall Road, Sheffield

There's setting the bar high - and then there's Ambar. Claiming on its website to be '˜a unique restaurant unequalled by any other restaurant', can it ever meet such a standard?

Well, our dishes were ready for collection within 45 minutes of ordering, and everything was boiling hot and fresh from the kitchen - a decent start, at least.

Starters were excellent value - two giant onion bhajis each, suitably crisp and lightly spiced - while the chicken methi boasted generous chunks of tender meat in a tomato-rich sauce, but fell short of being even ‘medium hot’ as promised.

The lamb karahi was better, with a notably gingery flavour and plenty of green peppers.

Pilau rice, garlic naan and a side of simple mixed vegetable curry rounded out a perfectly pleasant - but maybe not unequalled - Indian feast.
