Survive winter with free kits

UP TO 2,000 vulnerable people in Barnsley are being given winter survival kits to keep warm.

Blankets and thermal clothing, shoe grips for walking on ice and a thermometer are included in the packs. The pilot scheme involves various organisations to reduce the number of excess winter hospital admissions and deaths.

Stephen Turnbull, assistant director of public health for Barnsley, said: “We recognise 2,000 kits are only a drop in the ocean, but are hopeful this pilot will prove successful.”
